Finances

Many things can put a strain on family ties. Health concerns, psychological disorders, discipline problems with children, and financial problems are some of the obstacles that can affect any family. Financial problems can have many causes and produce disastrous results when not handled quickly and properly. Families can take many steps to try to avoid problems or to get out of them. Many families experience financial problems due to poor money management skills and unwise decisions about how to use income and credit. Uncontrollable factors such as unemployment can add to financial problems for families. Lack of communication can lead to problems when shopping gets out of hand. Other causes for family financial problems include addictions, emotional problems, and stress that lead to irrational spending patterns.

Family financial problems can lead to stress. Some couples fight over spending habits instead of looking for solutions to their money-related problems. Sometimes money disagreements become more severe and can lead to divorce. Children can feel trapped in the middle of the arguments and guilty when they benefit from purchases, or disappointed when money problems prevent them from having certain things. Since financial problems affect the whole family, hold a meeting to explain the situation and make a plan to resolve it. Create a budget to eliminate debt and save money. Put in place a good record of savings practices, then prioritize and stick to them. Viewing bank statements for the past six months, monthly bills, and monthly income information will help determine the family's budget needs. Householders can work to create a budget to eliminate debt and save money. Then implement good spending recording practices and prioritize and stick to them. If credit problems are out of control, contact providers to make manageable payment arrangements or seek professional help through Consumer Credit Counseling.

Successful family finances begin with paying a full tithe and contributing a generous fast offering. The Lord has promised to open the windows of heaven and pour out great blessings on those who faithfully pay tithes and offerings. When paying tithing and fast offerings are our first obligations, our commitment to this important gospel principle is strengthened and the risk of mismanagement decreases. I would like to share a personal experience about tithing and how it has changed my life.  Since I was a child or better said since I was a member of the church, because I am a convert to the church, I have seen how the blessing have covered my home when we pay tithings. When I was around 11 is when I become member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints and since then I have seen my mom paying tithing every single Sunday. She has always pay tithing, a faithful tithing that has brought us a lot of blessings like having a shelter, food and other things that a family need. Because I saw those things since I was a kid, I wanted to know by myself that those things were really true and that I could do the same as my mom and also receive blessings. I started paying my own tithing when I was around 16, even though it was not a lot of money because I was not making a lot of money but I can say that I saw how basic things in my family were not missing. After years I keep paying my tithing, I could see that now that I am on my own, living in my apartment, paying for my stuff and I have noticed that if I pay my tithings and I obey the commandments I am blessed on material things. The same applies for families, if they don’t want to have any problem in finances with family, we should first obey God.
